Social Media Assessment Survey
The Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD) is a leading disability-focused network engaged in coordinating activities of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in the Southern Africa region working in all the 16 countries of Southern Africa Development Community (SADC). In each of these countries, SAFOD coordinates programs and activities through its national affiliates.
Despite SAFOD conducting a series of training sessions in recent years to build the capacity of some youths with disabilities in using online media to advance disability mainstreaming in the region, such intervention did not bear satisfactory results due mainly to resource constraints among the trained youths as well as broadly within the affiliated OPDs. These resource constraints are believed to include, among others, lack of data bundles and gadgets – subject to conducting an assessment survey that can be targeted at the trained youths to not only validate these factors but also explore more effective approaches of working with these children and youths to implement various online campaigns.
The #Inclusive-Young-Voices (#IYV) is, therefore, running a social media assessment survey targeting youths and children with disabilities aged 15 to 24 years in the region to help understand how kids with disabilities use social media in advocating for various issues affecting them at national or even regional levels. The information gathered will inform SAFOD’s #IYV interventions aimed at capacitating selected youths and children in the five pilot countries of Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia, and Malawi before scaling the project to all the 16 countries of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) later.
You do not necessarily need to be based in any of the five piloti countries presently targeted by the project. While all young people with disabilities in all 16 countries are encouraged to participate in this online survey, SAFOD is also working with its national affiliates in the targeted five countries of Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Malawi, and Zambia to physically and virtually (via telephone and Zoom) collect data for the same survey. While the data being collected from respondents in the five countries will be useful in informing the intervention approaches in those countries between January and March 2022, the data from other countries will add even more perspectives and learnings to our work especially during the scale-up phase post-March 2022.
We estimate that this online survey on SurveyMonkey will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences. Please click here or on the button below to begin the survey.
