The Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD),in collaboration with UNICEF ESARO, plan to host a webinar on the sidelines of the Global Disability Youth Summit – GDS Youth to be held on 14 February 2022.

The aim of this Side Event – which is subject to confirmation – is to provide a platform to the #IYV Youth Ambassadors participating in the SAFOD’s #Inclusive Young Voices (#IYV) project, mainly from Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Malawi, and Zambia to share key issues emanating from the Children & Youth Dialogues related to GDS Commitments. The dialogues have been planned by SAFOD to take place in these countries prior to the GDS Summit itself.

The Youth Ambassadors will share and amplify youth and children’s voices about disability rights, issues they are passionate about and share their knowledge, expertise, insights, and experience with other kids internationally. The webinar will be hosted via Zoom and streamed on Facebook live to ensure full participation of youth, children, and other stakeholders.

The webinar will create an opportunity for youth and children and other stakeholders to connect and engage in an open and transparent dialogue on how to accelerate progress towards the realization of the rights of youth with disabilities and build consensus on strategic roles and commitments and call to action leaders and influencers on elevating disability rights for youth and children.

The webinar will serve as a space to generate insights into the most impactful issues for young persons with disabilities. A key output from the webinar will be a youth database which will strengthen future regional youth engagements beyond the GDS 2022, and effective coordination, collaboration, and communication, particularly amongst children and youth with disabilities.

More information about how to join the webinar will be confirmed when/should the organizing committee of the Global Disability Youth Summit – GDS Youth review and approve the SAFOD/UNICEF application or expression of interest.
